Parent Meeting Outline

Parent Meetings are an important activity to get everyone on the same page with you, as the coach, going into the season.  It can head off any misunderstandings parents may have concerning your management of the team. As a byproduct, it also encourages parent relationships that can add to their enjoyment when attending games.

This is a suggested outline for a Brief Parent Meeting that can scheduled before or after one of your first practices … try to keep it under 20 minutes.

  1. Coach(es) Introductions
    1. Each introduce themselves/spouse/child on the team (if applicable)
    2. Your reason/heart behind why you coach youth sports
    3. Background, if any, playing or coaching sports
  2. Head Coach Comments
    1. Coaching Philosophy
      1. W/L, Playing Time, Skill/Position Development, Game Planning
    2. Player/Parent Expectations
      1. Communication: absent/late to practice/game, coach decisions
      2. Importance of Timeliness in getting to practice/games
      3. All interactions with officials limited to only a coach
    3. Sportsmanship – Enjoy the Game Introduction
      1. 4 Roles – Stay in Your Lane
      2. Poor Sportsmanship Traps
      3. Be a Model of Good Sportsmanship for Kids
